(Washington, DC)  —  The District government has issued a “hyperthermia alert” because the heat index has begun reaching 95 degrees or higher.  Forecasters expect that heat index to climb to 110 degrees or higher by the end of the week.  Hyperthermia is when the body can no longer cope with extreme heat, and symptoms include heat cramps as well as dizziness and confusion.  The District is staffing its hyperthermia hotline at 202-399-7093.
