Today, most of black women have chemically treated hair either with a perm or some type of color. If you’re apart of the majority with chemically treated hair, then you probably have noticed that your hair texture has changed drastically after your visit to the salon, and your hair might be drier and more brittle than before. Having chemically and color treated hair requires more maintenance in order for it to look healthy and shiny. Believe it or not, your diet has a lot to do with how your hair looks, and doctors say that a diet that is rich in essential fatty acids such as pumpkin seeds will help your hair to grow. Doctors also say that hair moisture should be above 15% while the average person’s hair moisture is between 8% and 10% with African Americans being on the lower end due to all of the blow drying, flat ironing etc.

Another helpful tip is to always give yourself hot oil treatments when shampooing and conditioning the hair, keeping the moisture in and giving it a great treatment before using the blow dryer. You can check out more helpful hair tips here.
