Your favorite shampoo and conditioner can help you regain healthy hair but they don’t act alone. To give your hair a boost look at what you’re putting in your body. Similar to your skin and nails, your hair reaps the benefits of a better diet.

I witnessed this firsthand when I adopted the Atkins diet. To know me well is to understand that caffeine and sugar are two of my closest friends. Unfortunately, they are also my hair’s biggest enemies. When I kicked off the Atkins diet, I had to kick these friends to the curb. The program requires adding more protein to your diet and cutting back on your sugar intake. Within a few weeks, my waistline was shrinking and my hair length was surging. Eventually, I dumped the Atkins diet (that’s a story I’ll save for Diaries of a Skinny Fat Girl) but I made sure I kept the core foods on my grocery list.

1.      Salmon

2.      Low-fat dairy products such as milk and yogurt

3.      Carrots

4.      Oysters

5.      Whole-grain

6.      Eggs

7.      Poultry

8.      Nuts

9.      Dark green vegetables

10.  Beans

Are any of these foods part of your diet now?
