(Washington, DC)  —   A lot of DC students are skipping school.  DC Police say so far this school year, officers have picked up truant students more than 47-hundred times.Speaking to the DC Council’s special committee on school safety and truancy, Police Chief Cathy Lanier said that the single biggest issue with truants right now is burglaries.  According to the “Examiner” Councilwoman Yvette Alexander says the community must play a larger role in reporting truants.  She says the kids go into stores and walk down the street and nobody says anything.  Last year, nearly 78-hundred kids had been picked up for truancy by the end of March.
