Although the amount and value of James Brown’s assets have not been made public, the distribution settlement has been approved by a South Carolina judge. Although there have been a variety reports citing unpaid debts, misappropriated funds and inadequate accounting, the settlement clears a few things up. Nearly half of the Brown estate assets will go to a charitable trust, while about a quarter will go to his wife, Tomi Rae Hynie Brown and young son James Brown II. The other surviving six adult children also signed off on the settlement.  However, this may be far from over. People claiming to be offspring and fathered by Brown out of wedlock were left out of the settlement. There are also those who previously oversaw Brown’s estate and a former employee of  Brown with pending lawsuits.
