Taxpayers are getting an extra three days this year to file their tax returns all because of a holiday that’s observed exclusively in Washington, DC.  Usually, the tax deadline is April 15, but this year that day falls on Emancipation Day, which is a District holiday commemorating the day Abraham Lincoln freed slaves living in Washington.  Federal offices will be closed that day, meaning taxpayers will have an April 18 deadline to file their taxes this year.
