The couple met at the Yale School of Drama and on an appearance on Oprah, Angela fondly remembers Courtney as tall, dark and skinny and Courtney laughs and claims he doesn’t remember Angela at all. After graduating, Angela moved to L.A. to pursue her career and Courtney hit Broadway. They randomly ran into each other in 1994, went out on a date that fell flat. But it’s a good thing they decided to go on a second date because that’s when sparks flew.

The acting lovebirds wed in 1997 and have created a foundation of friendship that allowed their relationship to stand strong against any obstacle.

Why She Loves Him: Courtney loves being able to keep Angela happy. He gets the simple concept of happy wife, happy life. In an interview with Rachael Ray, Courtney explained how he became a husband and it’s definitely something to swoon over. “It was a hard concept to get my mind around. I worked with a trainer, who was also a marriage counselor. So everyday I was being counseled and he asked me what it cost when she asked me–if we were in a car–which way do we go, to say, ‘Which way do you want to go?’ I want peace in my home. I want that smile everyday. What I had to realize was that she’s first and when the queen is happy, the land is happy.”

Why He Loves Her: Friends first is usually the smartest route to love. Courtney maintained a friendship with Angela until one day, it just became so much more. He told PEOPLE, “We’re like old friends who all of a sudden looked up and said, ‘Hmmm …,’ Gradually it dawned on us that we like each other.”

Why They Work: Courtney and Angela have ground rules that they try to maintain in order to keep the peace in their marriage. No relationship is 100% perfect, the couple told Oprah that when they have their arguments, Angela watches her tone and the words she chooses while Courtney never raises his voice no matter what way the argument goes. “I’m putting two feet in with this one. We’re not going to be doing shows and movies together. We need to close the doors and figure our our marriage. We had to make a commitment to each other that divorce is not an option and to take it off the table.” Angela says, “He said that we would have to fight through it to get to the other end of it. It was really wonderful.”

Why We Love Them: This couple kept things old school with abstinence. This is an almost foreign concept these days. When Courtney proposed to Angela, they decided to keep their relationship out of the bedroom until their wedding night.

Automotive Rhythms commemorated their 10th Anniversary by hosting a private VIP reception at the Long View Gallery. The gala led up to the 2012 Washington Auto Show which opened the next day. Attendees got to preview the 2013 Infiniti JX which will be available this Spring.

Congratulations to Mayra Griffiths: The Majic Phenomenal Woman of the Month for February 2012!

Each Month Majic 102.3 honors local women who are making positive strides in our community.

Mayra Griffiths has touched countless lives with her tireless service. She is motivated by a heart that holds genuine concern for those less fortunate, and a true desire to be of use to her God.  Mayra is a member of St .Augustine Catholic Church in Washington, DC., where she is a member of the usher board.  She is also the coordinator of the church’s Homeless Outreach Initiative, which consists of regular Friday night outreach that provides blankets and gift cards for the homeless in the D.C. area and Saturday public park events that supply various toiletries, clothing, and food for the homeless in the metro area. She also assists the indigent who come to the church seeking aid during Sunday service.

For the past 5 years, Mayra has organized the annual St. Augustine Thanksgiving Food drive, coordinating donations and parishioners to provide food for more than 600 families each Thanksgiving season. In addition, she also coordinates the parish’s Christmas toy drive where, again, with the help of parishioners and supporters, toys are collected for more than 1,000 children.

Mayra was a recipient of the Manifesting the Kingdom Award for outstanding service, awarded by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Washington, on January 2, 2011.

Mayra is known not only for her compassionate giving, but for the tireless and selfless way in which she goes about it. No matter what the task is at hand, she is and continues to be a steadfast pillar in our community.

As the first African-American soloist at ABT in over 20 years, Copeland has already made history and hopes to become the first Black principal female dancer in the company.

“The Godfather of Go Go,” Chuck Brown is the undisputed sole founder and creator Go-Go music, a hypnotically danceable genre deeply rooted in funk and soul that he developed in the early 70’s , and the only form of expressive culture to originate in the District of Columbia. Foreshadowing rap and many of the major popular R&B styles of the past three decades, Chuck’s signature style earned him a place in American musical royalty. This esteem was maintained by the reputation of his legendary live shows, heavy on audience participation and built around “the beat” to create an unparalleled non-stop party atmosphere.

While searching for a sound to call his own in the 1960s, Chuck was deeply inspired by artists like James Brown. He latched onto the Latin percussion groove from the band he played with at the time, Los Latinos. Combining this with his roots, his love of blues, jazz, gospel, soul, and African rhythms, Chuck began to develop his own unique sound.
