Last Wednesday, I had the honor of serving as moderator for “#Sistah21: An Exploration of the Complexities of the 21st Century Black Woman.”  The event was held at We Work, a new collaborative work space in Chinatown, DC.  The room was filled with beautifully diverse Black women as well as a few good men.  Lottie Joiner, award winning journalist and editor of Crisis Magazine, was the facilitator for the evening.  The panelists included Natalie Hopkinson, Dr. Chic Smith, Tanya Ballard Brown and Jess Solomon.  The event organizer, Christine Johnson, created the event after having a conversation about the portrayal of Black women in the hit TV series Scandal and Being Mary Jane.  Johnson wanted real black women to shape their own narrative.
