Gospel music icon, Donnie McClurkin took to social media to express disillusionment over being disinvited from attending a concert he was scheduled to headline in Washington, DC.  In a video statement, McClurkin, claims the DC Mayor’s office reneged on the invitiation to “Reflections on Peace: From Ghandi to King”, after protests from gay rights activists.   McClurkin, is a critically acclaimed and award-winning gospel artist that has spoken openly about being delivered from what he called, “the curse” of homosexuality.
“The Arts and Humanities Commission and Donnie McClurkin’s management decided that it would be best for him to withdraw because the purpose of the event is to bring people together,” said Doxie McCoy, a spokesperson for Mayor Vincent Gray, in a Washington Post article.  In his video, Donnie McClurkin claims the statement is false, calls this a civil rights issue, and even alludes to taking further action.
