In a ‘Scandal’ous move worthy of her television alter-ego Olivia Pope, Hollywood darling, Kerry Washington, was married in a secret wedding ceremony on June 24 and E! Online has the marriage certificate to prove it.

Washington married NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha in a ceremony officiated by his sister, Minister Chisaraokwu Asomugha, and attended by close friends and family, including Washington’s parents, Earl and Valerie.

The happy couple were married in Hailey, Idaho and E! obtained the certificate from from Idaho’s office of Vital Statistics.

The year 2013 is clearly Washington’s year.

In addition to the breakout success of ‘Scandal,’ Washington has won two NAACP Awards — one for her role in the show and the other for her compelling role in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django.’

And to add icing on the cake, Washington is gracing the cover of the August issue of Vanity Fair, becoming the first Black woman to do so since 2005 — when Beyonce snagged the cover — and the only Black actress to do so alone.

Kerry Washington, Vanity Fair

In the Vanity Fair interview, Washington speaks on why she believes that she has broken through a heavily guarded color barrier:

One of the most profound things for me about the show is the number of white women of all ages who come up to me and say, “I want to be Olivia Pope.” It’s especially profound in a place like South Africa. It’s called The Fixer over there […] The fact that white women can see this woman of color as an aspirational character is revolutionary, I think, in the medium of television. I don’t think white women would feel that way about Olivia if her identity as a woman, period, wasn’t first in their mind.”

Congratulations to the magnificent Ms. Washington on her continued success and her marriage!
