(Undated) — Higher pump prices are now in effect in Maryland because of a three-point-five-cent increase in the state’s gas tax. It’s the first phase of a plan that could lead to a gas tax of about 45-cents a gallon by 2018. The state says the money is needed for roads, bridges and public transportation. Tolls on Maryland’s major bridges and tunnels are also going up today.
