Jodi Arias, who was found guilty yesterday of first-degree murder in the death of Travis Alexander in 2008, has revealed to reporters that she would rather receive the death penalty than serve life in prison.

Arias will return to court today as both sides argue if the nature of Alexander’s murder deserves the death penalty or not. Click here for a full account and details about how the rest of Arias’s trial will go after the decision is reached regarding cruelty.

UPDATE: In yesterday’s post the relationship between Alexander was described as having lasted for a few months in2008, however, the two dated in 2006 for a year and maintained a sexual relationship until Alexander’s death.

Arias said the following to a reporter for KSAZ.

“I said years ago I’d rather get death than life and that still is true today. I believe death is the ultimate freedom, so I’d rather just have my freedom as soon as I can get it.”

UPDATE: (05/09/13 3:45PM) Arias has been reported as being moved from custody to a psychiatric ward.
