2500 Benning Rd. NE, Washington, DC 20002
Meet Start Time: 8:45am
Former Olympic Champion, Dr. Tommie Smith, the first person in history to break the 20 second barrier in the 200-meter dash and a 1968 Olympic Gold Medal winner, will be in Washington, DC for this annual event. Dr. Smith is internationally recognized for his Black Power salute as he was presented with the gold medal at the 1968 Olympics. This action remains a symbolic moment in the history of the African American Civil Rights Movement.
Last year’s track meet featured three former Olympians, over 800 athletes, 31 youth track teams and over 1,000 spectators. The 2013 edition will surpass last year’s mark by bringing together one of the largest and most talented fields of youth track teams on the east coast.
