Dear Tom Joyner:

I am writing this letter to ask that you grant a special Christmas wish for my husband, Thomas Fulford.  We have been together for over twenty-two years and are the proud parents of four children.   Throughout our marriage i have been a stay at home mom holding down the fort while my husband was at sea.

On April 5, 2013, Thomas, who is a commander in the navy, will go to Washington, DC for a military retirement ceremony after twenty-two years of service to his country. There is an ancient naval tradition that is still practiced today, that when a sailor retires and is departing the ship for the last time, that he or she is given a “shadow box” as a reminder of achievements and accomplishments.

It would be my honor to be able to give my husband his shadowbox at his retirement ceremony to display the American flag he carries with him everywhere and the twelve medals in recognition of a stellar career.  Unfortunately, the cost is beyond what i can afford and i am running out of time.  Please, help us close this monumental chapter in our life with this powerful symbolic gesture and help us open a new chapter as civilians.

Evelyn Fulford
