Hundreds of thousands of kids across the Washington region are shouldering backpacks and heading back to class on Monday, the first day of school in the District and many surrounding suburbs.
In Maryland, classes are resuming in Charles, Frederick, Howard and Montgomery counties. In addition, Montgomery is getting its first public charter school: Community Montessori in Kensington.
