Congratulations to Mayra Griffiths: The Majic Phenomenal Woman of the Month for February 2012!
Each Month Majic 102.3 honors local women who are making positive strides in our community.
Mayra Griffiths has touched countless lives with her tireless service. She is motivated by a heart that holds genuine concern for those less fortunate, and a true desire to be of use to her God. Mayra is a member of St .Augustine Catholic Church in Washington, DC., where she is a member of the usher board. She is also the coordinator of the church’s Homeless Outreach Initiative, which consists of regular Friday night outreach that provides blankets and gift cards for the homeless in the D.C. area and Saturday public park events that supply various toiletries, clothing, and food for the homeless in the metro area. She also assists the indigent who come to the church seeking aid during Sunday service.
For the past 5 years, Mayra has organized the annual St. Augustine Thanksgiving Food drive, coordinating donations and parishioners to provide food for more than 600 families each Thanksgiving season. In addition, she also coordinates the parish’s Christmas toy drive where, again, with the help of parishioners and supporters, toys are collected for more than 1,000 children.
Mayra was a recipient of the Manifesting the Kingdom Award for outstanding service, awarded by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Washington, on January 2, 2011.
Mayra is known not only for her compassionate giving, but for the tireless and selfless way in which she goes about it. No matter what the task is at hand, she is and continues to be a steadfast pillar in our community.
