If you want to see the unveiling of the Martin Luther King Memorial on Aug. 28 authorities say it’s best to take the Metro because roads will be closed, parking will be sparse and traffic will be hell.
Mayor Vincent Gray joked that attendees should “march” for a dozen blocks as they did for the 1963 March on Washington.
According to NBC Washington:
Metro officials encouraged visitors from Virginia to get off the subway at Arlington National Cemetery and walk over the Memorial Bridge. Sarles said the popular Smithsonian station on the Mall will be open, but he said Metro expects huge crowds there, which could delay service.
Complicating matters: President Obama is scheduled to speak at the memorial service Sunday morning, and former President Jimmy Carter may be present, too.
“You know what that means,” one official said. “Lots of Secret Service restrictions.”
